Frank Smith
Frank Smith was born in South Philadelphia and attended Drexel University completing bachelors and masters degrees. He later received an MBA from New York University, the Stern School. Upon graduation from university he and his wife, Collette, spent two years in Cali, Colombia as Peace Corps Volunteers. Following a successful career in international business, he began this new venture by taking intensive courses at the Santa Fe Workshops in New Mexico. Among others, he has studied with photographers Jay Maisel, Eddie Soloway, John Weiss, and Arthur Myerson. Frank takes his artistic inspiration from "Shibui", a Japanese word for an aesthetic of simple, subtle and unobtrusive beauty. “I strive to create simple and elegant images . . . I think I’ve made progress on the ‘simple’, the ‘elegant’ may require a lifetime.” Frank has won numerous awards for his images which have been published in Rangefinder Magazine, and recently selected by New Mexico Magazine. He is represented by the Gail Pierson Gallery in Cape May, the Ris Gallery in Stone Harbor, the Accent Gallery in Ocean City, and the M.T. Burton Gallery in Surf City, NJ.
